Life Enrichment

Connection Through Care

At Schooner Memory Care, life enrichment is not an add-on — it is a cornerstone of how we care for and connect with residents every day. Our program is led by a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), ensuring that every activity is thoughtfully designed around the cognitive, emotional, and social needs of individuals living with memory loss.

This advanced certification brings a deeper understanding of how dementia impacts communication, behavior, and engagement. As a result, our enrichment programming goes beyond “keeping busy” and instead focuses on creating meaningful moments of connection, supporting dignity, and fostering a sense of belonging. The impact is seen daily through increased participation, improved social interaction, and more purposeful engagement among residents.

Socialization, Your Way

We offer a robust daily schedule with several planned opportunities for socialization each day. These opportunities are intentionally varied to meet residents where they are — emotionally, physically, and cognitively. Group activities encourage connection and shared experiences, while smaller group and individualized programming ensure no one is overlooked.

Recognizing that not all residents thrive in group settings, we place a strong emphasis on one-on-one engagement, particularly for those who are more reserved or socially reclusive. These personalized interactions help build trust, reduce anxiety, and support meaningful connection in a way that feels comfortable and respectful.

Balanced Living

Our life enrichment offerings are thoughtfully balanced across multiple areas of well-being, including:

  • Social engagement to foster connection and community
  • Gross-motor activities to support mobility and physical health
  • Self-care activities that reinforce independence and personal dignity
  • Creative crafts that encourage expression and accomplishment
  • Sensory enhancement activities designed to soothe, stimulate, and ground
  • Spiritual programming to support personal beliefs and emotional comfort
  • Cognitive activities designed to gently engage and stimulate the brain

Engagement Reimagined

We also utilize innovative tools such as the Tovertafel, an interactive projection system specifically designed for people living with dementia. The Tovertafel projects engaging, light-based games onto a table surface, encouraging movement, laughter, and shared interaction. These activities naturally promote socialization, physical movement, sensory stimulation, and cognitive engagement, often reaching residents who may be less responsive to traditional programming. The experience is intuitive, pressure-free, and adaptable to a wide range of cognitive abilities, making it a powerful tool in creating joyful moments and meaningful connection.

At Schooner Memory Care, life enrichment is about honoring each person’s abilities, preferences, and story — creating days filled with purpose, connection, and moments that truly matter.
